FSSAI Registration

FSSAI registration is the process of getting a Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) registration certificate. This certificate is required for all individuals or businesses engaged in food business activities in India, including manufacturers, traders, restaurants, and food processors, among others. The goal of FSSAI registration is to verify that food items meet the FSSAI’s safety and quality criteria. It entails submitting an application, along with the necessary paperwork and fees, to the FSSAI authority, which then assesses the application and issues the registration certificate after successful verification. FSSAI registration contributes to the maintenance of food safety standards, increases consumer confidence, and fosters the expansion of India’s food business.

FSSAI Categories :-

FSSAI registration categories are depending on the size and nature of the food industry. There are three major categories.

Basic FSSAI Registration is for small food businesses having a yearly turnover of up to ₹12 lakh. It is appropriate for small-scale manufacturers, storage facilities, transportation companies, merchants, marketers, and distributors.

State FSSAI License: This category is for medium-sized food businesses having an annual sales between ₹12 lakh to ₹20 crore. It pertains to enterprises that operate within a single state and has more stringent documentation and compliance requirements than basic registration.

Central FSSAI License: This category is for major food firms having a yearly turnover of over ₹20 crore. It applies to enterprises who operate in different states or engage in import-export transactions. To obtain a central FSSAI license, more regulations must be followed, as well as rigorous documentation and inspections.
